Playa de las Americas

Playa de las Americas is a tourist center located in southern Tenerife (Canary Islands) between the municipalities of Adeje and Arona.

Playa de las AmericasThe weather is sunny most of the year and has a registered population which amounts to 13,102 inhabitants according to sources of ISTAC (January 2006). Around 2 million tourists chose Costa Adeje in 2006 as a destination for their holidays and hosts 5,500,000 tourists annually.

The tourist center was developed in the 1960s from other tourist areas such as Los Cristianos. These two tourist resorts (Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos) with others are part of the name Costa Adeje.

In this area of the island there are water sports such as surfing, diving, motor, etc. and a vast population of dolphins and whales. Costa Adeje has many shops, malls, a casino, Palacio de Congresos Magma (multipurpose building), theme parks, sports facilities and the Golf Costa Adeje, included in the PGA TOUR.

Las Americas has varied accommodation consisting of apartments and hotels of all categories including several top class hotels of high luxury.

In Las Americas there are many apartments, aparthotels and hotels of all categories, including lodgings in the town. The nearest airport is Tenerife South, which is approximately 20-25 minutes by car.

The area of Playa de Las Americas includes several beaches, most man-made with sand imported from Africa. It is also one of the places with the largest range of leisure in the south of Tenerife with numerous bars, pubs, terraces, restaurants, and clubs.

The beach Playa de las Americas I and II Playa de las Americas, have obtained the blue flag granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe (FEE). This award is given to those beaches that meet EU rules on cleaning coastal waters and other operational services, and other applicable requirements.
