Saint Christopher is the patron saint of the city and its municipality, and Cristobel La Laguna, the Virgen de los Remedios (to which the cathedral is dedicated) is the virgin patron saint, whose feast is celebrated on September 8th. However, the most venerated image of the town is the Santo Cristo de La Laguna. In fact the day of your party (September 14) is a public holiday throughout the city and the municipality.

The historic town was declared “Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO on December 2, 1999 in Marrakech. This statement was due largely to its constitution as the first city of peace (no walls) and which retains almost intact, its original layout of the fifteenth century as reflected in the map built by Leonardo Torriani.

It highlights the hull of the city’s Cathedral of Our Lady of Los Remedios, which is also known as Holy Church Cathedral (neoclassical) with concrete vaults.   The Church of the Conception is a parish on the island whose Renaissance Tower stone is the symbol of the city.

The Royal Shrine of the Holy Christ of La Laguna, which houses the image of the carving of the Blessed Christ brunette, the Plaza del Adelantado, City Hall, the Palacio de Nava (which plans to install a Parador Nacional de Turismo) and Salazar (headquarters of the Bishopric and copy of the foregoing, ravaged by fire on January 23, 2006), the Casino, the convents of the Clear and the Catalinas, and the ex-church Santo Domingo, the Drago and Drago Seminar are on Water Street. In the Convent of Santa Catalina is the uncorrupt body of the nun, Sister Mary of Jesus, with a reputation for milagrera.

There is also the former Convent of St. Augustine, the church burned with the same name and also located in the homonymous street, home of the first Institute of the Canary Islands since 1846. It is a noteworthy step in this school of writers Gran D. Benito Perez Galdos. At present it is the home of the Institute Canarias Cabrera Pinto. At this site, you can visit the cloisters and two exhibitions devoted to science and scientific instruments. It also hosts a series of paintings of great interest.

Also the Constitution of the parks, near the Plaza del Cristo, and the “Drag” on the night of the city, is between the streets Heraclio Sanchez and Antonio Gonzalez. Of interest is the university area called “the ring”, which is over a hundred bars and pubs that liven the evening in Lagunera. In that area the “botellon” is also practiced.

There is also night life in the area of Las Chumbera with the entertainment center being Las Palmeras in addition to bars, restaurants, business and leisure park with shops, cinemas and large supermarkets. Guamasa is in the area near the airport, and the nightclubs and restaurants are very popular. Within the old town are the bars where you can taste delicious cheeses and many wines.
