Beaches and parks

Playa de Las Teresitas

The Teresitas Beach in San Andres de Anaga Massif is the most visited beach.  It is an artificial beach, made of sand brought from the Sahara Playa de las Americasdesert in 1973.   There are three small coves of sand and rocks that existed east of the coastal village of San Andres. Shortly before reaching the sand, you can see the Castle or Tower of San Andres, fortified bunkers and artillery Spanish Historical Heritage.

On November 28th 1967, by order of the Council of Ministers, it was declared a National Tourist Interest Center.

The beaches and Roque de las Bodegas Almaciga.  Here there are incomparable beaches, rocks, vegetation and the possibility to taste cuisine canaria.

Beach Benijo: Near Taganana in the Macizo de Anaga.  It is a cozy beach with views of the Roques de Anaga which are a natural reserve.

Playa de Las Gaviotas: This is a nudist beach and visited by surfers. It is very busy, its black sand and clean waters, causing visitors to clog up the poor road that gives access.

Parque Maritimo Cesar Manrique: posthumous work of Canarian artist created the image of Lake Martianez of Puerto de la Cruz.  It consists of two main pools of salt water, a small cove of golden sand, cafes, creche, gym and other leisure facilities. At one end of the Maritime Park in Mountain Lazaretto, the Palmetum is a botanical garden specializing in palm trees.

Playa de Antequera: golden sandy beach, no road access, and difficult to access by foot. Normally be reached by boat. It measures approximately 400 meters.

Natural Areas and Parks

The municipality of Santa Cruz covers most of the Anaga Massif, mountains are scattered in small populations.  Rural Park is an excellent road, ideal for hiking. There is also a hostel.

The most important parks are:

Parque Garcia Sanabria: Built in 1926 and recently renewed after 18 months of work, has an area of 67,000 m2. Inside you will find the traditional “flower clock” (Gift of the consul of Denmark and manufactured in Switzerland in 1958), a meeting point for many chicharreros and a bust of the mayor and a tribute to motherhood is in the central area.

Park Farm: Built in 1969 at the Casa de la Cultura it is popular for jogging and relaxation.
Parque Cultural Viera y Clavijo is currently closed for refurbishment and is used for performing arts.
Palmetum Santa Cruz de Tenerife.  This is a botanical garden of 12 hectares dedicated to palm trees, which still is not open to the public. Divided into sections, with many species which are critically endangered. It also has an ethnographic museum.

Places

Plaza de Espana:  Herzog & de Meuron are responsible for its design which occupies 36,160 m2 and has a lake with fountains and emerging variable flow, a large park, called wards (restaurants, cafes, kiosks, information, access to subway, shops, bars etc) and new parking area (they are currently few and underground).

During the remodeling the missing Castillo de San Cristobal was found which dates from 1575 and that in those years was the adoption of the famous military engineer Leonardo Torriani.

Plaza de la Candelaria: Located off the Plaza de Espana in its perimeter are emblematic buildings like the Casino de Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce Playa de Las Teresitasor the Building Olympo. In the second half of the sixteenth century building began on the first square of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in front of the Castillo de San Cristobal, known as the square of the battery and which corresponds with the current plaza of La Candelaria.

Plaza Weyler: Plaza de 3.600m2. It represents the ancient gardens of the Palace of the Captaincy General of the Canary Islands.  At its center is a source of Genoese marble.  The renaissance-styled work of Achille Canessa.

Plaza del Principe de Asturias (popularly known as Plaza del Principe).

Plaza de la Paz: Located at the confluence of the ramblas Pulido of General Franco and General Mola, avenues and assumptions. It is a meeting place for many people because it is the site chosen by the fans of Club Deportivo Tenerife for their celebrationd.
