Health in Tenerife

The main health centers on the island are the Hospital Universitario de Canarias and Hospital Universitario Nuestra Senora de Candelaria. Both hospitals are tertiary, ie, are referenced and offer specialist care for the Canary Islands.  They are embodied in the educational network of the University of La Laguna. However, they belong to different agencies.   The first is under the guidelines of the Health Consortium and the second under the Tenerife Canary Islands Health Service.

In addition, two new hospitals are being built in outlying areas in the north and south of the island, in the municipalities of Icod de los Vinos and Arona respectively. These sites, according to its classification as second-level hospitals have advanced diagnostics, emergency, outpatient surgery, rehabilitation, etc. The third-level hospitals and the future of second level along with 39 primary care and multi specialty care centers complement the health infrastructure of Tenerife.
