Museums in Tenerife

The Island has several different types of museum venues that are under the sway of various institutions. Perhaps the most notable, are those belonging to the Autonomous Organism of Museums and Places, that has the following spaces:

Museum of Nature and Man: located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this museum offers a glimpse of the richness of the Canary Islands and the pre-Hispanic population Guanches, who inhabited them. The complex consists of three museums:
1) Museum of Natural Sciences
2) Archaeological Museum of Tenerife
3) Instituto Canario de Bioantropologia
Auditorio_de_TenerifeMuseo de Historia de Tenerife: Located at the city of La Laguna, the museum provides a historical overview of institutional development, social, economic and cultural development of the island between the XV and XX.
Museum of Science and the Cosmos: The Lagoon is also situated on adjoining premises of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.  This museum details the laws and principles governing the island, from operations to the stars.
Museum of Anthropology Tenerife: Located in Laguna, in the Valle de Guerra Museo de Antropologia de Tenerife.  This is a public institution dedicated to research, conservation and popular culture.

Documentation Center Canario American (CEDOCAM) residing in La Laguna has as its mission, to promote cultural relations and elements of common identity between the Canary Islands and America, as well as maintenance, information dissemination and sharing of documentary heritage.
Centro de Fotografia Isla de Tenerife: Located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife it offers an annual program of exhibitions that allow contact with trends and works of renowned authors and creators of emerging islands. In the future this center will share the seat with Oscar Dominguez Institute of Contemporary Art and Culture.

TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is yet to open.  It seeks to promote understanding of different trends in contemporary art and culture among the local people and outsiders, facilitating the organization of activities (cultural, scientific, educational and technical).

The Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in the capital, which shows a permanent exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Jose de Ribera, Federico Madrazo, Joaquin Sorolla y and thousands of artists such as Oscar Dominguez.

La Casa del Vino La Baranda-that belongs to the Museums Association Wine Spain, is located in the municipality of El Sauzal and has among its facilities a rustic historic hacienda, which is a museum about the history of Tenerife wine, a restaurant serving typical food from the land, a wine bar, an audiovisual room and a tasting room.
La Casa de la Miel: attached to the Casa del Vino La Baranda-is an entity created by the Island Council to support and develop the beekeeping sector of Tenerife. La Casa de la Miel has a visitor center that offers a vision of the history of the product on the island, its process of development and information services and tasting honeys of Tenerife, which have a designation of origin.
The Ibero-American Craft Museum is located in the former convent of San Benito Abad, de La Orotava. The center fits into the outreach program that runs the Documentation Center of Crafts Spain and America.  The Foundation is funded by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, the Spanish International Cooperation Agency, the National Commission’s Fifth Centeneario, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Government of the Canary Island of Tenerife. It has five rooms that specialize in folk musical instruments, textile-new designs in handicrafts, Ceramics, Fiber and Folk Art.

The Archaeological Museum of Puerto de La Cruz: located in the eponymous town and out on a traditional casona XVIII-XIX centuries, offers a museum fund of over 2600 records of elements of the Guanche culture and a documentary that takes the name of the investigator Luis Diego Cuscoy.
El Museo Militar Regional de Canarias is located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in Almeyda. Its rooms highlight the military history of the Canaries, including the attack of Admiral Nelson, as well as other events and battles on the islands. Apart from the Military Historical Museum of the Canaries, this property has the Intermediate Military Archive and the Library of the Canary Islands Military.
