Protected natural areas

Almost half of the island is under the protection of different formulas that give the network of protected natural areas of Canaria. Of the 146 natural protected areas throughout the archipelago, a total of 43 are located in Tenerife a total of 37% of all protected areas.

Anaga TenerifeThe Network provides up to eight different categories of protection, all represented on the island: apart from the Teide National Park that is the largest natural park in the Canary Islands Crown Forest and two rural parks Anaga and Teno.

Then there are four integral natural reserves, six special nature reserves, a total of fourteen natural monuments, protected landscapes and ninety six sites of scientific interest. The municipality of La Orotava is largely the Teide National Park, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife is doing the same with the Anaga rural park, ensuring more than 60% of the town is under protection.

In the same way, the locations of the majority of Teno Rural Parks is under the municipality of Buenavista del Norte and are an important part of the protected areas.
