Transport in Tenerife

Roads of Tenerife

The main communications that take place in Tenerife are set by road. The most important are the Autopista del Sur and del Norte, which depart from the metropolitan area to the south and north respectively.

These two highways are connected via the motorway North-South on the outskirts of the metropolitan area. Within the road network on the island, there are other less important routes than the above but include the highway from San Andres and Autovia Penetration of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, both in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Also planned is the construction of a bypass road north of the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife-La Laguna. This highway is intended to communicate the core of Guamasa and ACOR, across the wasteland of Motorway Tenerife infoCentenero, Llano del Moro, El Sobradillo, El Tablero, El Chorrillo, among other neighborhoods. The route will take approximately 20 km and an estimated cost of 190 million euros.

Airports

The primary way to get to Tenerife is by plane. There are two airports on the island, Tenerife South and Tenerife North airport.  Although the Tenerife Sur airport is receiving greater numbers of passengers largely due to it’s popularity with European low cost airlines.

have regular flights to the capitals of other islands and many mainland cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Malaga, Bilbao, etc.) with European cities of United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy among others and also with American and African cities. Taking into account the two airports, Tenerife every year receives more and more passengers and an increased number of operations performed.

Ports

Besides the aircraft, Tenerife has two main ports that serve as a connection. El Puerto de Santa Cruz connected with the capitals of each island, and in particular those of the Eastern Province and the port of Los Cristianos which focuses more on communication with the capital of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is also possible to passenger traffic between the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cadiz, and vice versa. It plans to build a major port in the south of the island of Granadilla, and one on the west, Fonsalia.

Guaguas

The island also has an extensive bus network both urban and interurban Tenerife tourism3 4linking the vast majority of the population. It has bus stations in all cities, including the Transport Interchange in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Tram

With the opening of Line 1 for the tram in Tenerife, joining prominent areas of the conurbation Santa Cruz-La Laguna and the two hospitals in the area.  The tram network was launched in Tenerife. The second phase connects the neighborhoods of Tinca (belonging to Santa Cruz) and La Cuesta (La Laguna). Line 2 opened on May 30, 2009. This line has two stops, the Hospital Universitario de Canarias and the Cardonal.

Belonging to the same company which operates the Tramway Tenerife, in 2010 it is expected to commence (following the approval) the construction by the plenary, of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife on April 27, 2007.  This work is to enable a train that will connect Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the south of the island. The total route is 80 km and is planning to make your journey 35 minutes rather than 45 minutes if you were to stop at every stop.
